1939 - 1944 Band

Tascar Williams wrote: “The picture was (taken) in front of the old High School. The Band Director was William (Bill) Benton.  He was a hired as a history teacher but had started the band in his off period.  At the end of the year, he quit because the board would not hire him as band director. This caused an uproar from the community, and the board had to hire John Paul Jones as director, buy new uniforms and new drums, tuba's, etc.
