The Albany High Times ... how it began ... and where it's going! Going into our SEVENTH Year!!! Tribe Notes ... from Beverly
In April 2002, I asked Janice
Hayes McClendon if I could start on a data base for our 1955 50th
Class Reunion. Shortly afterwards, I attended a church service at
Albany FUMC and Janice arrived with the 55 class file in hand! And so
the first part of the journey began … I already had the email addresses from a few class members with whom I already corresponded, but in trying to confirm addresses for the database, I began to collect more.
In the meantime, Charlie Stewart ('55) sent me the Albany Herald's
article on
Skywater
… the wonderful book about Radium Springs written by Morgan Murphy and
Lamar Clifton. I decided to type it and email it to AHS students whose
email addresses I had collected thus far, and suddenly I began to
receive "memories of Radium" from several classmates representing
different years. I decided I couldn't keep those memories to myself and
not share, so I began to compile them, sending them back to the email
base. Then, something else happened ... folks from other classes
began to share memories of Radium and AHS - and as memories grew, so
did the email base. Keeping up with the memories – to whom I had sent,
who was new and needed all of them, became quite a job; so I decided to
create a few AHS WebPages inside my personal website.
That's when an incredible thing began to happen ... the WebPages
reconnected and bonded students who had lost track of one another over
the years ... and believe it or not, there's been a whole lot of lovin'
goin' on!!! Moreover, folks that were not necessarily friends in high
school have made new friends. And it just keeps on growing … so much so
that I decided to convert the pages in my website to a completely
independent website for AHS … THE ALBANY HIGH TIMES, which would tell of
"times" past, present and future. So here we are … having fun looking
back … and eagerly anticipating looking forward. We continue to look for ways to expand and/or improve this site as we add new subject pages – perhaps you or your class would have an interest in participating. Please send information or photos (in jpeg format) to: albanyhightimes@aol.com. To our TIMES together ~ ~ ~
